Department of Education and Psychology

Distinctive Features of the Department

It is possible to study childcare, education and psychology at the same time and acquire licenses and qualifications in all three fields. Students can major in childcare or education and at the same time, take psychology subjects or major in psychology and take subjects about childcare or educational issues. The special point of our department is that the window to learning has been widened. Students will be divided into specialized courses from their second year. In the first year, students will obtain the basics of learning and as they receive advice from the teachers and upper class students, will be able to carefully ascertain what they want to do. The desire of our department is for students to be able to work in specialized occupations having various fields of expertise by not just obtaining qualifications but also designing their own educational goals such as "Nursery teacher who can counsel mothers that have concerns about child rearing", "Elementary school teacher specialized in child psychology", "Psychologist specialized in children with psychological problems", etc.

Infant Development Course: Nursery-Kindergarten Teacher

For four years, students will learn about childcare-preschool education. We will train childcare persons who will acquire high quality planning administration ability and be able to assess children's development (psychology assessment) and be able to support childcare through counseling. Students in small numbers will be taught knowledge and skills about childcare by thorough guidance from teachers specialized in childcare. From the first year, students will learn combining theory and practice by participating in local childcare support activities and visiting nurseries and kindergartens. We will nurture students who will think deeply about childcare from a wide field of vision by having them participate in childcare seminars, listening to special lectures concerning childcare research, and join discussions about childcare.

We have specialized full-time teachers who are academic experts about all elementary school subjects. They will civilly support the students anytime when the students have questions or have problems concerning student teaching. We have incorporated a learning system to support the students in having them participate in elementary school classrooms from their first year. Our department offers thorough specialized education in small numbers (6 to 7 students per seminar class). "If you are really serious about becoming an elementary school teacher”, then Kyushu Women's University is the place for you. Many alumni have become teachers. You can also prepare for the teacher employment examination from the first year. You can also obtain English teaching license for junior or senior high school and/or language arts teaching license for junior or senior high school by registering for classes at other departments. Kyujo's Outstanding Points

Playroom

At first glance, the multipurpose playroom reminds you of an ordinary nursery room. It is a monitor room to observe the children in a state of play. One can observe the children in a natural everyday play situation. The room can be used for consultation with the child's guardian and for grasping the state of the development of the child.

The Miniature Garden

The miniature garden is indispensable to the psychological domain. Students together become the subjects and analysts as they play with the miniature garden.
To understand the mind of the child at an educational / childcare institution, it is necessary to implement the best use of the miniature garden which will become the means to measure the child’s mind.
